NLRB polling booths in Cold Storage space of the tin mill during the election on September 25, 1941. The elections results were: SWOC 10,813 votes; the “independent association” 4,198 votes and “no union” 713 votes. Almost 90% of the eligible workers at Sparrows Point voted in the election. SWOC became The United Steelworkers Union (USW) in 1943
