One of the most compelling documents in the project is this pay stub from the grandfather on Tony Saladino, who worked for Maryland Steel in 1897. "Maryland Steel of Baltimore County" was established on June 27, 1891, as a subsidiary of Pennsylvania Steel. As you see, his grandfather worked 30 hours and, after deductions, took home 1 cent. Tony has framed the stub, and inserted a period penny.
